Belfast Cycle Budget Cut 98%, roads increase 51%. Mass Cycle Protest, City Hall Wed 13th 1.10 sharp. Cuts have just been announced for this year reducing the cycle budget in Belfast by 98% from £450,000 down to £8,000, whilst at the same time spending on new “strategic” roads increased by 51% from £149m to £225m. This is an insult to cyclists. It is time to express your anger. Come with your bicycle and anything
to make noise, bicycle bells, whistles, etc.
Belfast City Hall entrance gates Wed 13th Oct 1.10pm sharp. Cycle once around city hall, then onto the cycle path along Franklin Street for media photographers. 1.30pm finish.
Also send a protest email to Conor Murphy, the Minister for the Department of Regional Development, who is in charge of transport budgets. Conor made the opening address at the Belfast Cycle City Conference in June to 200 cyclists, claiming to support cycling, conveniently, shortly after this he made draconian cuts to cycling budget and increased spending on roads. Actions speak louder than words. Follow the link to email an email to Conor Murphy.
