Riding in an assertive position in the middle of the lane is recommended as safe practice in certain situations – but it can provoke hostile reactions from other road users

If there is no cycle lane and there are 2 lanes for traffic I will usually take the left lane. I feel it is safer to force a motorist to change lane to overtake me rather than try squeeze past and possibly clip me.
Most cars react normally and change lane, but I have been passed aggressively by taxis, so it depends on the attitude of the driver.
As regards our “right”. As “equal” road users, I believe it is our right, but we still need to share the road and show courtesy to others.
