The Board of Irish Cycling Campaign CLG, the company under which we operate, are a diverse group in terms of gender, age, background and where they are from / based. You can read more about each of the members of our board below.
We believe that our combined experience ensures that the organisation is well positioned to advance the Irish Cycling Campaign’s mission “to celebrate, advocate for, encourage and enable everyday cycling as a means of travel and as a way to secure many health, societal, economic and environmental gains, as well as an enjoyable activity in its own right” as per our adopted strategy.
Chairperson – Mairéad Forsythe
Active in the Dublin Cycling Campaign at local and national level since 2013. Previous history of activism in Scouting Ireland, Gaelic Athletic / Camogie Associations and trade unions. Retired civil servant – served at Principal Officer level with the Revenue Commissioners. Cycled extensively at home and abroad. Completed long-distance routes Mizen/Malin, circuit of the coast of Ireland, Lands End to John O’Groats, Loire a Vélo in France. Day trips on the Rhine and Danube Greenways, and on urban and rural cycling infrastructure in the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, France and Austria.
Treasurer – Paschal Comerford
Paschal is a Tipperary native and has been living in Dublin for 25 years. He is an active cyclist and uses his bikes for commuting and leisure cycling around Dublin. He joined the Irish Cycling Campaign about 15 years ago after experiencing the poor infrastructure available to cyclists in Dublin, and believes that working together could have a positive influence on the local authorities and transport planners and thereby improve the experience and safety of Dublin cyclists. He has been actively involved in many of the campaign’s activities over these years. He has been the treasurer of the Campaign for the last ten years, and this involves managing the income and expenditure of the campaign, and during this time he has helped the campaign to get onto a stronger financial footing.
Secretary – Vinnie Meyler
Active in the Irish Cycling Campaign since 2017 and board member since 2020. Lives in Dublin City and works in the financial services. Vinnie has a BA in Geography, HDip in Computing and an MBA. He volunteers with Parkrun.
Eugene Doran
Eugene has been cycling in Dublin more or less continuously since the 1960 through the decades when getting about by bike was very unfashionable. He has cycled in many European countries also; hiring a bicycle is always a priority upon arrival anywhere. Lifelong interest in urban design, especially the contribution good transportation design makes to improved quality of life. Member of Dublin Cycling Campaign for around 15 years and currently looks after membership administration.
Sandra Velthuis
Sandra was brought up in The Netherlands and UK. She completed a BA in Geography at the University of Birmingham. Her MA research at the University of Sheffield focused on effective cycle planning. In the early 1990s, Sandra worked for London Cycling Campaign, as well as undertaking various consultancy contracts that focused on cycling. In the late 1990s, Sandra came to Ireland. She established and ran the national volunteer development agency Volunteer Ireland, before founding Whitebarn Consulting in 2005. Today she provides a range of services to not-for-profits, with a particular emphasis on maximising their outcomes, impact and social value. Sandra was the Republic of Ireland’s first Accredited Practitioner of Social Return On Investment. Sandra has been a member of Irish Cycling Campaign since 1997 and joined the Board in late 2020.
Danielle O’Riordan
Danielle is a qualified solicitor working across a broad variety of legal areas, specialising in regulatory law and working with regulated entities. Cycling is a huge part of her life and her main day to day mode of transport. In addition to using cycling for commuting/transport, Danielle cycles extensively as part of her training and racing as a competitive amateur triathlete. Danielle volunteers as a committee member and training coordinator for Ireland’s largest triathlon club. She has also used her legal training to work on a number of pro bono / voluntary causes including assisting with emergency accommodation and asylum seeker applications and providing basic legal education to female prisoners.
