Cyclist.ie – The Irish Cycling Advocacy Network – is the member for Ireland of The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), based in Brussels.
The ECF is a family made up of cycling federations and cycling promotional groups across Europe (writ large) acting as advocates for increased everyday cycling uptake.
The ECF is based in Brussels at the heart of the EU and ideally placed to lobby the Commission and the relevant DGs about everyday cycling policy. The ECF runs the annual Velo City conferences, and Velo City World events every other year. The ECF is a founder of the World Cycling Alliance.
We would urge Irish roads authorities to send delegates to ECF conferences so as to understand proper provision for cycling. The ECF also coordinates the Euro Velo network all across Europe.
Our government is trying to construct the Irish leg of EV Route #1 (Cities Route) connecting Galway to Dublin using the Royal Canal tow-path and less trafficked rural roads.
